Who are Shaw and Rogers?

It was founded in 1960 and has grown to become one of Canada’s largest telecommunications companies. Rogers provides services in wireless and wireline communications, including cable television, internet, home phone, and mobile services. They operate throughout Canada and have a substantial customer base in Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada.

Both Shaw and Rogers compete in the Canadian telecommunications market and offer similar services to consumers and businesses. They are known for their extensive network infrastructure, reliable service, and competitive pricing. Additionally, both companies have invested in expanding their networks to offer faster internet speeds and improved coverage.

In March 2021, Rogers Communications announced its intention to acquire Shaw Communications in a deal valued at approximately $26 billion. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval but, if completed, would result in a significant consolidation in the Canadian telecommunications industry. It would combine two of the country’s largest players and potentially lead to changes in the competitive landscape. However, as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the acquisition has not been finalized, and the regulatory process is still ongoing.
